Why the report and the sale do not meet
The ad platform knows who clicked. The shop, the agency or the consultancy knows who bought. When the contact moves to a conversation, the two lists stop matching: a name typed by hand, a different phone number or a customer who comes back a week later breaks the link.
Without that link, the decision about where to put the next real goes to the metric that is easiest to see, usually the click, and not to the one that matters, the customer.
Choose the goal before you read the numbers
Each campaign should have one goal that you can recognize afterwards. For a business that sells through messages, a natural goal is a conversation started on WhatsApp or Instagram. Others are a form filled in or a visit booked.
The cost per conversation is the spend divided by the conversations that began. It says more than the cost per click, because a click is only curiosity and a conversation is already a person talking to you. Even then it is the first step, and the cost per sale is the one that closes the account.
- Spend of the campaign in the period
- Conversations started from the ads
- Cost per conversation
- Contacts that reached a sale, and the value
Keep the origin on the contact record
The origin of a contact should be written once, when the contact appears, and stay on the record. If the person came from an ad, the campaign is part of the history, together with the conversations, the negotiation and the payments.
This matters most for the contacts who do not buy at once. A lead who talked to you in March and closed in May still counts for the campaign of March, and only a record that keeps the origin can tell you that.
Follow the lead through the funnel
A funnel is a list of stages a contact passes through, from the first message to the close. With the stages defined, you see where the contacts from each campaign stop: some campaigns bring many conversations that never reach a quote, and others bring few that almost always close.
Define for each stage what makes a contact enter and leave it, so that two people classify the same lead in the same way. Follow-up messages are part of the funnel too, and a draft prepared by the AI is useful only when a person reviews it before it goes out.
Control what the campaigns spend
An ad that goes live by mistake spends real money within hours. A simple rule helps: new ads are created paused, each one has a spending cap, and turning it on needs the approval of a named person who has seen what will run.
The same care applies to messages sent to many contacts: check that the contacts agreed to receive them, estimate the cost beforehand and keep a way to stop the sending. The rules about consent and about advertising depend on the country, the channel and the platform, so confirm them with the professional who answers for your operation.
Ask the customers what they thought
The best campaign on paper can bring customers who leave disappointed. A short satisfaction survey sent after the service, with a score and one open question, shows whether the people who arrive from each campaign are happy with what they bought.
Read the score together with the themes of the answers. A campaign with a good cost per conversation and a low score may be promising something the business cannot deliver.
How Verbum helps
Verbum Marketing links Meta ads to the conversations they bring. Whoever arrives from an ad on WhatsApp or Instagram stays linked to the campaign, with spend and cost per conversation in the console, and the funnel and the surveys work on the same contacts. Ads are always created paused. Some items are released per customer and depend on the approval of the Meta app, so talk to the team about audiences, A/B tests and cost per sale.
- Campaigns, ad sets and ads with spend, impressions, clicks, conversations started and cost per conversation
- Ads created paused with a spending cap, and turning one on needs an exact approval
- Funnel with stages and a board of journeys, and playbooks with AI drafts that a person reviews
- Satisfaction surveys by link or inside the channel, with a panel of score, themes and sentiment
- Segments and CSV import of contacts, and replies to Instagram comments from the inbox
- Ask Verbum answers about campaigns in plain language, in the console or on WhatsApp
